Nevada Waterfowl Association member John David
Stanley, son of Dave and Janet Stanley of Reno, traveled to Easton,
Maryland to compete in the 33rd Annual World Junior Goose Calling
Championships. The calling contest was held at Easton High School
during a three day Waterfowl Festival. Sixteen year old John David
said, It was a real honor to compete and win against some of
the worlds best callers.
There was one day of qualifying and two days
of competition. Only the top five callers got to come back in the
finals which were held on Saturday, November 10, 2001. John David
scored an 838 to beat out Joey Palumbo by one point in the junior
division. John David said, I competed in the senior division
against 33 competitors and got a 6th place. I got to see what that
division was like because I will be too old to compete in the junior
division next year.

The championships were sponsored by Mossberg,
Final Approach, Avery and Mossy
Oak. John David used an Alan Stanley Game Call - Alan Stanley is
his uncle. When asked what he won, John David replied that he needed
a semi to haul it all home and they are still shipping stuff to
him! He said, I got a hand carved goose decoy trophy carved
by Charles Jobes, a $500 scholarship, a 12 gauge Mossberg 835 shotgun,
an Avery floating blind bag, two dozen Real Geese Pro silhouette
decoys, a Final Approach gun sling, a fanny pack, wader bag, lunch
box and a predator blind.
John David will be working and practicing hard
so he can go back to Easton again next year.
Congratulations!
